Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient eastern medical art that utilizes the placement of sterilized, individually packaged, fine needles into specific points along meridian channels in the body. These channels bring nourishment to the body’s cells, tissues, organs, and systems. When there is blockage, nourishment becomes obstructed, and pressure builds causing pain or dysfunction. Acupuncture helps unblock the obstruction and restore health.

How many treatments will I need?

The benefits of acupuncture tend to be cumulative, working through layers of disharmony in order to achieve balance. I recommend one treatment a week for 3-4 weeks followed by a break for several weeks, which allows time for your body to thoroughly benefit from the series of treatments.

Many acute conditions will only need one series of treatments for the condition to be resolved. Long-standing disorders may take more time, requiring follow-up sessions to further the healing process. In these cases, we can schedule periodic maintenance treatments depending on how you feel.I let patients determine what is best for them and support them in whatever it is they feel they need.

What can I expect from a treatment?

Acupuncture treatments generally last one hour. The condition is discussed during an intake period followed by a physical examination. The insertion of acupuncture needles usually takes 5 – 10 minutes. The patient is then left in the treatment room during a retention period of 20-25 minutes and often becomes deeply relaxed

Does Acupuncture hurt?

There is a slight pinch with needle insertion followed by a dull ache, which steadily lessens during the rest period. It is not painful.
